    TRAINAIR PLUS Steering Committee Convenes at ICAO’s 42nd Assembly

    On the occasion of the 42nd ICAO Assembly, the International Civil Aviation Organization’s TRAINAIR PLUS Steering Committee (TPSC) held its 17th meeting (TPSC/17), bringing together Members and Observers for a productive forum on harmonised, competency-based aviation training.

    The session gathered 35 participants, including representatives from 14 Member organisations, Observers, ICAO Secretariat, and ICAO Training. It marked the second TPSC meeting of 2025, following the Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS), reaffirming the Committee’s ongoing commitment to advancing aviation training worldwide.
    Serving her second elected term as TPSC Chair, Paula V. de Almeida, opened the forum alongside Vice-Chairs Ahmed Hoummady and Won Soon PARK. The meeting was generously hosted and sponsored by the United Arab Emirates delegation to ICAO and the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). Participants were also honoured to welcome the UAE Youth Committee during the open session of TPSC/17.

    Advancing Harmonisation in Training

    The Committee continues to strengthen the TRAINAIR PLUS Programme (TPP) by addressing challenges related to training harmonisation across ICAO regions. Working closely with regional leaders, the TPSC provides a platform for dialogue, alignment, and fair competition under ICAO’s “No Country Left Behind” (NCLB) initiative.
    Key topics on the agenda included:
    • Reaffirming the Committee’s role as the unified voice of TPP Members
    • Updates on ICAO’s 2025 Training Activities
    • Feedback on the TPP Framework
    • Insights into the Global Aviation Education Plan (GAEP)
    • A presentation on Training Needs Analysis (TNA) from the APAC Regional Training Symposium hosted by the Singapore Aviation Academy

    The discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration, global reach, and harmonised approaches in shaping the future of aviation training. Through the guidance of the TPSC, the collective expertise of its Members, and a shared commitment to competency-based methodologies, the TPP continues to grow as ICAO’s leading global training community.

    The Committee will reconvene at ICAO’s Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS 2026) in Marrakesh, further advancing its mission to support States and training organisations in line with ICAO’s strategic goals.
